Mrs. Van Valkenburg
Mrs. Alfred Van Valkenburg died at her home Saturday morning at the age of 71. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Mahlum and Anderson chapel with the Rev. Fred Ortmeyer officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery. One child preceded her in death.

Rose Emma Keller was born February 19, 1872 at Pulaski, New York to Samuel J. and Lydia Keller. Rose and her family moved to Illinois and later to Storm Lake. At Storm Lake she was married to Alfred Van Valkenburg on January 19, 1891.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Valkenburg have lived in Estherville for thirty-eight years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary January 19, 1941. She was a member of the Methodist church.

She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Allen of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Oscar Anderson and Mrs. Harry Loveland of Estherville; six sons, Ray, James, George and Harry of Estherville and Fred at Camp Claiborne and Myron from Richmond, Va.; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Fred and Mrs. Jeanette Allen were unable to attend the funeral. Fred was in a hospital at Camp Claiborne.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Ray, James, Myron, George, Harry and George Van Valkenburg, Jr.

Mrs. Joseph Hoye and Mrs. Stanley Larson sang several sons and Mrs. Don Howard accompanied them at the piano. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 4, 1943)
