Rockland - Priscilla "Auntie" Staples, 87, died at the Homestead in Owls Head.
Born in Rockland, she was the daughter of Hector G. and Bernice Fernald Staples. Educated in local schools, she was a 1939 graduate of Rockland High School.
For more than 39 years she was employed as an Operator with New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in Rockland.
A long-time member of the Unitarian – Universalist Church of Rockland, it is reported that at the time of her death, Miss Staples was the oldest living member of that church. She was also a member of the Tonian Circle of the church and a member of the Bel Roc Pioneers of America.
Miss Staples was proud of her family and often told how good they had been to her. She enjoyed playing Bridge, reading, knitting, sewing, and handy work.
Pre-deceased by a brother-in-law, Roger Newhall in 1999 and a niece Elaine Seibold in 2005, Miss Staples is survived by one sister Charlotte; one brother George and his wife Charlotte all of Rockland; three nieces Carolyn and her husband Samuel of Waldoboro; Marie and her husband Eugene of St. George, Mary and her husband Richard of Hopkinton, NH; one nephew Gerald and his wife Claudette of Braintree, MA; a nephew by marriage Albert of Santa Rosa, CA; great nieces and nephews Christopher, Jason and his wife Laurie, Andrew and his fiancée Vanessa, Eric and his wife Holly, Jeremy and his wife Effie, Timothy, Erin, Dawn and her husband Ted; one cousin Priscilla and her husband John, as well as several great-great nieces and nephews.
Spring interment will be in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.
