Name is seen in many variants: SLATTON SLATTEN SLATEN SLATON etc. In my records he is Nicholas B. Slatton. Nicholas is a grandson of Captain John Slaten/Slatten, and thus a 1st cousin 4x removed from the original manager Clinton Slayton, whose ancestors adopted the "Y" spelling. The family of Capt John settled in Hawkins co TN. The names Hiram and Nicholas are continued through the family, and these descendants drifted south to Claiborne and Grainger Counties TN.

Many records were transcribed by either Mrs W J Miellmeier, Prentiss Price or Alton Greene, found in Prentiss Price Papers, Kyle Collection, McClung Historical Collection, Knoxville TN, or Alton Greene Collection in the same library. Mary Cruzan's privately published book The Cruzan Story mentions these families.
