Elizabeth Slatten was born May 13, 1850 near Lonedell, Missouri, and departed this life Sunday evening, March 11, 1934, at 5:40 having reached the age of 83 years, 9 months and 28 days.

She was converted at the age of 16 years and united with the old Meramac church. She lived a Christian life all through her many years on this earth.

At the age of 26 years, she was united in marriage to J. E. C. Nevills and to this union, one son, Ed., was born. This good man died 56 years ago. In the year of 1888, she married Dick Slatten, who has also passed away. He was an invalid for many years and she showed her Christian spirit by faithful care during his sickness.

When she moved into the Virginia Mines community, she united with the Prospect church. She made her home with her son.

Surviving are one son; five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Spradling of Clair; Mrs. Mary Ellen Lewis of California and Mrs. Caroline Ward of Van Buren, Missouri, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

She, herself, made most of the funeral arrangements before she died, even to the place of the burial. She talked freely of her death and had no fear of dying. Our loss is her eternal gain.

Funeral services were held in the Prospect church, Tuesday afternoon, March 13, Brothers Chas. D. Manes, O. C. Thurmond and R. L. Manes all taking part in the service by request. Wm. Case and Co. had charge of the funeral.
