Harriet Martin Mauldin, 82, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, August 7, 1999 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born October 9, 1916 in Greenville, S.C. to the late Benjamin Franklin and Cleo King Martin. Harriet went to Furman University in Greenville, where she was a member of Beta Sigma Sorority. While in Greenville as a young girl, she was a member of the Spinsters and also Junior Cotillion. Harriet was a member of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. She was also a floor volunteer at the Montgomery Regional Hospital for 20 years. Harriet is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Malinda Mauldin and Richard Whitelaw of Burlington, N.C.; two sons, William Lawrence Mauldin, IV and John McHardy Mauldin, III, both of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Harriet Whitelaw Richards, Atlanta, Ga., Miriam Whitelaw Sutter of Australia, Andrew Whitelaw of Greensboro, N.C., Robert C. Mauldin of Orlando, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Sarah and Megan Richards, all of Atlanta, Ga.; and sister, Ruth Martin Krogh of McLean. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 10, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Alex Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. Harriet loved flowers, but, in lieu of them, donations may be made to the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 144, Blacksburg, Va. or to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
