NEWPORT NEWS -- Robert A. Smith, 69, of 102 Sylvia Lane died Wednesday in Riverside Hospital. Born in Wymer, W.Va.; he was a Peninsula resident for 47 years. He retired from the Civil Service at Fort Eustis and was a member of Warwick River Mennonite Church, Newport News.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie M. Smith; three daughters, Mrs. Betty A. Hurr and Mrs. Thelma K. Davis, both of Newport News, and Mrs. Judy C. Montgomery of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Floda Summerfield of Cass, W.Va., Mrs. Anna Waybright and Mrs. Sarah White, both of Elkins, W.Va., and Mrs. Clora White of Clarksburg, W.Va.; a brother Joseph D. Smith of Valley Bend, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Warwick River Mennonite Church by Bishop Truman Brunk and the Rev. Nelson Burkholder. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Weymouth Funeral Home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Warwick River Christian School.
