Odessa Record Newspaper, Oct 1934. "Justina Janke Killed By Fall. Mrs. Justina Janke, 78, pioneer resident of the Odessa region, died on Wednesday morning from injuries she received in a fall down a flight of steps, suffered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Haase, while she was visiting there in Monday afternoon. Mrs. Janke had been standing on the porch at the time of her accident and in turning stepped over the trap door opening, falling down the cellar. Mr. L.J. Bonney was called and rendered first aid and cared for the victim during the time she lived. Mrs. Janke had been mother to a family of 18 children, three of whom survive. They are Mrs. Ludwig C. Delzer, Mrs. John Heimbigner, and Mrs. John Haase, all of Odessa. Other survivors include a brother and a sister. Mrs. Janke was born in Russia, where she grew to womanhood and was married, coming with her husband to the United States, locating for a time in South Dakota, then moving to North Dakota, where they spent 10 years. They located on a homestead at Odessa 36 years ago and after eight years of farming retired to make their home in town. Funeral services will be held on Sunday from the Pilgrim Congregational church, the Rev. J.C. Schwabenland officiating. Burial will be made in the Odessa cemetery."
