Mr. Byrd died Tuesday, March 29, 1994. Born in Horry County, he was a son of the late George Ely and Berta Parker Byrd. He was a teacher and principal with Conway Junior High School and a member of Conway Masonic Lodge 65 AFM amd St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where he was a former senior warden and Sunday school superintendent and helped build the "Old Church." He was formerly active with the Boy Scouts and Horry County Mental Health Association.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Wingo Byrd; a son, Phillips Byrd of Horry County; a daughter, Carrie-Anna Byrd of Conway; a brother, George Byrd Jr. of Conway; sisters, Carlyn Duke of Conway and Phyllis Cain of Laurens; and five grandchildren.
