John Baumann, 85, of Lamberton, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lamberton, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton. A parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be performed by the Storden American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Edith of Lamberton; children, Diane Spross of St. Paul, John of Wabasso, Paul of Sac City, Iowa, Paulette and Gerard Fisher of Springfield, and Laurie of St. Paul, Jennifer and fiance' James Selfe of Sanborn; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard of Montevideo and Jerome of Hooper, Neb.; sisters Gertrude Iverson of Lamberton, Loretta Quiring of Lamberton, Agnes Amburn of Rapid City, S.D., and Irene Hofmann of Benson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; daughter, Sue Nelson; and brothers, Edward and Lavern.
He was born May 25, 1915, in Lamberton to John and Amelia (Guggisberg) Baumann. He served in the Army 1941to 1945 during World War II in Algeria French Morocco, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He married Edith Anderson in Lamberton. The couple lived in Highwater Township. In 1968 he started working with the Storden Elevator and retired in 1980. They moved into Lamberton in 1991. He was member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lamberton and a member of the Legion in Storden.
