MABEL IRENE MITTEN

Mabel Irene Mitten, 89, of Memphis, MO, formerly of Medill, MO, died January 25, 1999, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

She was born March 8, 1909, in Carthage, IL, a daughter of Charles T. and Lucretia Mae Langley Boston.

She married Artie C. Mitten on September 1, 1929, in Keokuk, IA. He died on January 25, 1966.

Survivors include on son, Dr. Carl Mitten, and his wife, Lois of Houston, TX, and children, Kathy Steinbrenner and husband, John, Marva Wood and husband, Darrell, and Laura Mitten; one daughter, Leta Mae Stinnett of Ft. Madison, IA, and children, Linda Clatt and husband, John, Barbara Wedel and husband, Mike, Shelley Weisinger and husband, Bruce; one son-in-law, Lavern Stott and children, Clifton and wife, Reta, Cathy Farris and husband, Mike, Beverly Ayres and husband, Paul, Carla Cook and husband, Royce; two sisters, Geraldine Clark of Swisher, IA, and Leota Kenzorek, Bradley, IL; two brothers, Reverend Hillis Boston of Clyde, OH, and Iven Boston of Keokuk, IA; one special niece, Charlotte (Davis) Ussery; and a host of nieces and nephews; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mabel was also preceded in death by one daughter, Alta Stott, in 1998; four sisters; and three brothers.

She graduated from Gorin High School in 1929. She had worked at Moore's Business Forms and at the Iowa Ordinance Plant. She was very proud of her work
and education, especially proud of her class ring which she often showed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Kahoka Presbyterian Church.

Her hands were always busy helping others and when she wasn't helping someone, she used her hands to crochet afghans for her family.

Funeral services were held January 29, 1999, at the Kahoka Presbyterian Church, Kahoka, MO, with Reverend Hollis Boston and Reverend Iris Kerr officiating. Burial was in the Sabbath Home Cemetery near Adair, MO. Memorials may be made to the Gorin School. Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO, was in charge of arrangements.
