"Jeanne" was a talented dancer who appeared in a dance team known as Francis and Carroll of international fame. She used the stage name, Jeanne Francis and was best known as the "Limberest Girl in the World". On 13 July, 1932, Jean married to actor/booking agent Edward Eddington Smith, (birth name-Moses Morris Koplewitz). Jean and Eddie had a son, Robert Edward Smith, who was born on 4 August 1933. Bobby died in a plane crash near Bergstrom Air Force Base in Texas during a training mission in 1957.

Jean and Eddie later divorced and Jean married Jerry Grey, her dance partner.

Jean appeared in "Here's to Romance", "College Holiday", "Romance in the Dark", "The Girl from Avenue A", "Springtime in the Rockies", "Footlight Serenade" and "Ziegfield Follies".

Later in her life, she owned a dance studio and an Apartment in San Antonio, Texas. After the death of her husband, she resided with her oldest sister, Augusta Short.

At the time of her death, Jean was still living with Augusta and her sister Mary Burroughs, who had arrived in Texas to help care for her during her last days. Jean died from a brain tumor and is buried with Jerry and her son Robert.
