Frances Farmer and James Madison Frans(France) were married in St Charles County Missouri, January 5, 1842; as per Marriage Records, Missouri (1805-2002).
The 1860 (July 1860-Throckmorton County at Fort Belnap) US Census Records lists her state of birth as Virginia. James Madison was listed as "stage stand keeper."
The 1870 (July 1870-Fort Griffin, Cedar Creek, Census) US Census lists her state of birth as Virginia. He was listed as stock raiser. It lists her age as 49.
I'm confused on her birth place since I find no documentation on her birth and the two census records shows she/he stated Virginia. FindaGrave lists Kentucky.
In a book by E C Greene,"900 Miles on the Butterfield Trail," James Madison "Matt" and Frances Frans(z) were operators for two stations for the Butterfield Stage line, the last in 1860 on the Clear Fork of the Brazos. Two years earlier the family had a station in Woodson, about 14 miles east of the Clear Fork Station. He went by Uncle Matt and the last name was spelled with an "s" or "z" or even France.

Gravesite Details
Frances died shortly after the 1870 Census and supposedly is buried in the Fort Davis Cemetery. Saundra Nobles surveyed the little site but no marker was found. We assume she was buried here because of her living near the area.
