John L. Harper, 77, died at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2010) at the Greater Peoria Specialty Hospital.
He was born March 3, 1933 in Logan, Kansas to Robert and Lola Earley Harper. He was preceded in death by his father, four siblings and one great-granddaughter. He married Carol Washburn. He then married Virginia Ekena Weyhrich in Trivoli on Oct. 15, 1993. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Eureka; daughters, Wanda Harper, Peoria; Melonie (Curt) Rowen, East Moline; Ruth Harper, Fargo, N.D.; Bobbi Stear, Elmwood and Jayne Gunter, Princeville; brother, William (Dorothy) Harper, Roanoke; sisters, Viola King, Bloomington; Martha Lewis, Eureka and Naomi (Don) King, East Peoria; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army in Japan during the Korean War.
