The Chico Enterprise, Saturday Evening, September 14, 1912: "C. C. Richardson To Enter New Fields. C. C. Richardson, exceptionally well known in Chico, for several years connected with the firm of Fetters & Williams in the capacity of undertaker and assistant in the management of the large furniture store on Second street, today severed his connection with the firm. ----- Fred Williams, principal owner and proprietor, bought out the interests of the retiring member. Frank Nau, former bookkeeper of the firm, will assume charge of the undertaking department. ----- Richardson, who has extensive land interests in Butte county, will remain here and in the course of a few months will establish an up-to-date undertaking establishment in Chico. He has been urged to leave Chico for other fields of activities, but the local outlook is most inviting to him."

The Chico Enterprise, Tuesday Evening, January 11, 1944: "C. C. Richardson Sole Owner of Furniture Co. C. C. Richardson, Chico furniture dealer since 1912, has bought out the interests of Mrs. John T. Donohue and Millard Caywood in the Richardson Furniture company, it was learned today.

"The transaction was effective the first of the year, Richardson said, Mrs. Donohue assumed the interest of her husband when he died in 1942 after 26 years in the company. Caywood was a member of the firm for 30 years, and had been an employee of Richardson three years before buying an interest in the store.

"Richardson founded the firm in 1912 at which time the store was located in the middle of the block between Seventh and Eighth streets on Main Street. He had been employed several years prior to that by the old Fetters and William furniture store on Second street between Salem and Broadway.

"New manager of the store is Charles Freeburg, who has been an employee of the company for several years. He is widely known in the Chico area and is a former proprietor of a furniture store in Corning. Miss Marian Richardson has also been added to the staff."

Chico Enterprise-Record, Monday Evening, March 23, 1953: "C Richardson Dies Today in San Francisco. Clarence Colin 'Doc' Richardson, widely-known businessman, died at the Stanford Lane Hospital in San Francisco early this morning, where he had been a patient for the past several days.

"Mr. Richardson was the son of Jared V. and Martha Ann Richardson who were early pioneers of this community. He was born at Nord, in 1879, and was brought up on the home farm while he attended the local public schools. He took advanced studies at Chico State Normal. Following that he next entered the dental department of the University of California, and graduated with the degree of D.D.S.

"Having completed four years in Chico in the practice of dentistry, 'Doc' Richardson went to New York and took courses in embalming. He practiced embalming in New York, and on his return to Chico, bought an interest in Fetters and Williams furniture and undertaking establishment, which he held for seven years. During this time he was deputy county coroner under John Wallace.

"In the fall of 1912, Mr. Richardson sold his interest in Fetters and Williams and in January, 1913, bought J. W. Jewell's Furniture located at 719-735 Main Street. He later built the Richardson Furniture Company on the corner of 8th and Main Streets which he had operated ever since. He was proprietor and manager. Mr. Richardson also was engaged in almond and sheep ranching.

"Mr. Richardson was married to Edith Stevens, at Alameda. She is a native of Dayton, the daughter of W. C. Stevens, pioneer farmer and stockman. She is a graduate of Chico Normal.

"Mr. Richardson took an active interest in community affairs and and belonged to the Chico Engine Company No. 1, in which he was a past foreman; Chico Lodge No. 111, F.&A.M.; Royal Arch Masons Chico Chapter No. 42; Chico Commandery No. 12 Knights Templar of California; the eldest living member, Ben Ali Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Sacramento; Chico Lodge No. 423, B.P.O., Elks of which he was a Past Exalted Ruler and also a 50-year member; Beulah Rebekah Lodge; Chico Lodge No. 113, I.O.O.F.; and was an honorary member of the Chico Shrine Band.

"Mr. Richardson was a former Mayor of Chico serving from 1922 to 1925, and also was foreman of the grand jury for two years. He was chairman of the board of directors for the First National Bank and in 1936 when the Anglo Bank bought the First National Bank he became chairman of the advisory board.

"Besides his wife, Mrs. Edith Richardson, Mr. Richardson is survived by their daughter, Mrs. Marian Archer. Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Brusie Funeral Home."
