Carrie was born on June 15, 1915 in Eureka, SD to Heinrich and Christina (Opp) Steffan. She was educated there and confirmed in the German Luthern Church. Carrie was united in marriage to Theodore Laemmle on September 18, 1932. They moved to the Sisseton area in 1938, where they farmed. Carrie moved to Sisseton in 1966 following her husband's death. She enjoyed coffee and sharing stories of the "days on the farm" with her many friends, many of whom she briefly reunited with at the Greenleaf Assisted Living Center in Sisseton, where she enjoyed a wonderful month before becoming ill. Carrie was a longtime employee of Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, retiring at the age of 85. Carrie also worked for Mrs. Eleanor Gravdahl in the catering business for many years. Carrie passed away on February 18, 2003 at the Wilmot Community Nursing Home.
Carrie is survived by one son, James Laemmle of Claire City, SD; one brother, Henry Steffan of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren, Jack and wife Mary of Sisseton, Joe and his wife Ella of Huntley, MT, Shawna and husband Clay of Henderson, NV, Gary Burdahl of Kissamee, FL and David Burdahl of Minneapolis, MN; and four great-grandchildren.
Carrie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Inez, one grandson, one sister and eight brothers.
