LOUIS LEMERY DROPS DEAD

A French Prairie Pioneer Dies on the Streets of Salem

Louis Lemery, Sr., an old resident of French Prairie, fell dead on Court street, while crossing High at 11:30 o'clock today. He was walking towards the court house with Daniel Cavanaugh, with whom he came from home this morning. The latter states that Mr. Lemery was in his usual health and had made no complaints of feeling badly. He fell as he stepped behind his companion to let Marshal D.W. Gibson pass. He uttered no sound as he fell, and breathed for a few moments. Mr. Gibson turned him over and tried to give relief, but without avail.

Deceased leaves a wife and nine children, all of whom, except two sons at Pendleton, reside at the family homestead. Mr. Lemery was one of the French pioneers of the northern part of our county, about 64 years of age, and a well-to-do good citizen. His remains were taken to W.T. Rigdon's undertaking parlors, awaiting word from the family, who have been telegraphed the sad tidings and will probably take charge of the remains. Coroner Clough was satified of the death, but it is not believed that an inquest will be necessary. It is generally supposed that death was caused by apoplexy.

February 16th, 1899, Mr Louis Lemery of this parish, husband of Helene Gagnon, died, aged 65 years, and on the 20th of same month was solemnly buried in our cemetery.
