Husband of Lucinda (Murray) Dunlavy (1812-1887). Son of George Dunlavy and Catherine (Johnson) Dunlavy. Father of nine children including: George, Ann, Rufus, William, John, Catherine, James and Christopher Dunlavy. James was a Union soldier in the 5th Kansas Cavalry, Co. D during the Civil War. One son, John P.M.B. Dunlavy was in the 7th Missouri State Militia Calvary, Co. K., another son, Rufus, was in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry, Co. H., and a another son, William Henry Dunlavy, was in the 3rd Iowa Cavalry, Co. M. Yet another son, George Dunlavy, was in the 1st California Infantry, Co. F. George died in New Mexico in 1864 while in service.
