Daniel Baum was the son of Jonas Peter Baum (1734-1785) and Maria Eva (went by Eve) Hurz (c1738-???), who married in c1759 in presumably Pennsylvania. Jonas and Eve were both born in Berks County, Pennsylvania. After Jonas died, Eve remarried to Melchior Imtorf in 1786.
Daniel Baum Sr. married Ascenith (seen spelled many different ways, listed as Asenath on most family records, but as Ascenith on grave marker) Myers Rothrock (1781-1870) on 20 Feb 1801 at Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. In 1805 the family moved to Ross County, Ohio and in 1825 to Carroll County, Indiana. Daniel was a farmer. Daniel and Ascenith were the parents of twelve known children, namely:
