Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Central City, the daughter of Carl A. and Minerva P. (Leuty) Farthing, she was reared by Clarence and Mary Farthing following her mother's death on Jan. 10, 1919.
Minerva graduated from Salem High School in 1937, and Springfield Secretarial School. She retired from Rock Falls National Bank, where she worked as a marketing officer. She was treasurer for East Coloma School District for 25 years, and Rock Falls city treasurer, 1973. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Falls; Rock Falls Women's Club; Eastern Star; Questers; and served as Rock Falls Days Grand Marshall, 1984.
She married Elwin Swanson on Dec. 14, 974, and they celebrated more than 35 years of marriage together.
She is survived by her loving husband, Elwin D. Swanson; her daughter, Mary "Cindy" L. McDonald of Denver; her son, R. David Hagburg of Lubbock, Texas; her granddaughter, Andrea (Guy) Kittleson of Brighton, Colo.; her blended family of Tamara (Ken) Long of Stillman Valley,
Cheri (Jon)Stewart of Dixon, and Kirt (Susan) Swanson of Harmon; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Darrel, and Paul.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Falls, with the Rev. Henrietta Milner officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Funeral arrangements are pending.
