She was a school teacher in Anderson Co., TX before she married. About 1903 the family moved to Eden, Concho Co., TX where Flora became a homemaker. In 1929 the wife of her son, Gilbert G Day, was killed in a tragic car-train accident in Whittier, CA leaving a two-year-old granddaughter, JoAnn Day. Flora insisted on raising JoAnn, and kept her for about 8 years until JoAnn entered the 5th grade, at which time JoAnn re-joined her father who had re-married. Every summer JoAnn returned to the Day Ranch until she was married.
Flora was the homemaker of a merchant, farmer, and rancher. She endured many hardships on the ranch in the late 1930's. A strong-willed woman who believed in a good education for her children and grandchildren, she made a strong loving impression on all her grandchildren [including this author].
