Cora Strong, age 76, a six year resident of Trinity, Texas, died at Trinity Memorial Hospital in Trinity on March 21, 1959. She was born September 4, 1882 in Texas, the daughter of J. F. Gray and Martha Denson Gray. Mrs. Strong was preceded in death by her husband, Col. N. R. Strong in 1930. She was a retired rancher. Burial was in Strongs Memorial Cemetery near Slocum, Texas.

MRS. CORA GRAY STRONG
One of the deservedly prominent women of Anderson County is Mrs. Cora Gray Strong (Mrs. N. R. Strong) of Slocum.
Mrs. Strong is a native of Elkhart and has been identified with Anderson County practically all of her life. Her education was completed at Omen, at Summer Hill Select School. In 1905, she was married at Robert E. Lee. Coke County, to Col. N. R. Strong, deceased. Her varied business career began at the age of eighteen years, when she was engaged to teach the school at Day, Anderson County. The following year she continued to teach, but at Bethel. Her salary both years was $35 a a month. Her board cost $8 a month, so $27 was left for clothes and incidentals. Many young teachers today, working on a salary of $75 to $100, do not, apparently, fare so well.
After the teaching experiences, young Cora Gray enrolled at the Metropolitan Business College of Dallas. Upon graduation a position with Briggs Machinery Supply Co. of Dallas was secured. Here she had experiences which were of incalculable aid later when she went into business with her father in Slocum.
The Slocum business was a general mercantile establishment. For four or five years Mrs. Strong was her father's assistant, after which she purchased his interests, becoming sole proprietor. Mr. Gray being postmaster, she served as his deputy, her post-office experience covering a period of seventeen years.
Mrs. Strong's husband. Col. N. R. Strong, while a member of the state legislature was stricken by death. Mrs. Cora Gray Strong was appointed his successor. She served with distinction for two years retiring from this experience in legislative halls with a broader scope on conditions and life in general. One of her signal achievements as a legislator was the pushing to a successful completion of the bill to consolidate the offices of county Tax Assessor and Collector. It was she who drafted the bill and put it through both houses. That it is now a law and the state is saved each year one-half the sum formerly required to finance these two offices is owing to her shrewd planning.
Mrs. Strong continues to be a very busy wo-man. Supervising several large farms, she is in her car, at certain seasons, early and late. She is meeting with the success that has characterized all her business ventures. She is wide-awake and keeps in close touch with her favorite organizations in Palestinethe Eastern Star and the Athenaeum Club, while she is also a zealous member of the Christian Church.
