Enlisted October 25, 1861 in Gainesville; Discharged October 31, 1864 Petersburg; GAR, Listed in History of Wyoming County page 86, 194; Rank of 1st Sgt.
December 12, 1907 - Late John McGuire whose remains were brought here from Buffalo last Saturday, was 69 years old and spent his early life in the town of Gainesville. During the Civil War, he was a member of Co. G. and served with honor during his enlistment. For the past 35 years he lived in Buffalo and during that time, he acted as a target man for the Erie Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Henrietta McGuire; two children, Miss Matie and William McGuire of Buffalo; two brothers, Jerry of Silver Springs and a brother in Niagara Falls; one sister, Mrs. Mary Mulvey of Illinois. The funeral was held at St. Mary's church with interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
