Richard was the son of James A. Mounts and Elizabeth Bryson Mullan. Married 8 Nov 1871 to Mary Ellen Robison, the daughter of James Robison and Margaret Ulm.

Obituary
Richard Mounts, third child of James and Elizabeth Mullan Mounts, was born April 8, 1846 near Washington, Pennsylvania. He passed away December 21, 1937 at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 13 days.
At an early age he became a member of the Presbyterian Church at Washington.
On November 8, 1871 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Robison. She preceded him in death October 12, 1903.
He had been in poor health for several years but he bore his lot with patience and courage. He was ready and willing to go.
Five sisters and four brothers have preceded him in death.
He leaves behind, one brother Thomas Mounts of New Philadelphia, ; a sister Mrs. Nancy Ballard, of Salem, Oregon; several nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends.
Sunset and Evening Star,
and one clear call for me;
And may there be no moaning of the bar
When I put out to sea.
Funeral services were conducted at the home of his niece at New Philadelphia by the Rev. William Shirley. Ingterment was in the Beech Grove Cemetery.
