Mrs. Albert Carleton, aged fifty-eight years, was found drowned in the cistern at her residence on Skene Street, near the Baptist church, Whitehall, yesterday morning. It is evident that she intended suicide, as her feet were tied and a small shawl was around her hair. Clean clothing was found on a table in her house, intended for her burial, and she had made her will, leaving her property to her son, who is in the West. She leaves a daughter and three son's. She was the daughter of Anthony Rathbone, a wealthy farmer of the south part of the town. Corner Donaldson took charge of the case and will hold an inquest. She was last seen about the house by the neighbors Friday afternoon. A veil twisted so as to form a andgae was fastened under the chin and tied on top of her head. Two of her blood relatives killed themselves within the last few years. The deceased had been suffering from Bright's and heart diseases. - Whitehall (N.Y.) Chronicle.
Mrs. Carleton lived here for many years, her husband dying here. Some six years ago she removed to Whitehall where she has since lived. The deceased was well favorably known and her family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in this vicinity.
