Fred Bradshaw
SALISBURY - Fred Bradshaw, 83, of Salisbury, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born May 10, 1924, in Rabun County, Ga., Mr. Bradshaw was the son of the late Cuba Nelson Bradshaw and Inez Nichols Bradshaw. Fred was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator and gunner during the Normandy Invasion, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, Ga. in the legal office.
He received an LLB degree at Woodrow Wilson College of Law, Atlanta, Ga., and B.S. degree at Georgia Teacher's College, Statesboro, Ga. Employed by the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, he was an education therapist for 23 years.
Fred was an avid golfer before his illness of Alzheimer's Disease. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, he was also a member of Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342 in Salisbury.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Audrey Williams Bradshaw; son Fred William "Bill" Bradshaw of Salisbury; daughters Julie Jones and husband, Henry of Barnwell, S.C.; Emily Bradshaw and husband Robert Johnson of Mechanicsville, Va., Kathy Bradshaw of Rockwell; grandchildren Juliet Elizabeth Jones, William Henry Jones, Palmer Earle Bradshaw Johnson, Audrey Lena Bradshaw Johnson; brother Ray Bradshaw of Hiawassee, Ga.; and sisters Dorothy Guffie of Stanley, and Kathleen Taylor of Hiawassee, Ga.
Visitation: Visitation will be from 7-8:30 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home.
Service: A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard location, with military rites by Rowan County Honor Guard.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144; or to donor's choice.
