Lawrence A. Hartman's first wife was Elizabeth Lewis, daughter of Alexander Lewis and Mary Ann Quinn Lewis of South Frontenac in Frontenac County, Ontario. Lawrence and Elizabeth married on 13 Jun 1903, probably in Watertown, and had two children. Elizabeth died in 1911 and their children were raised by close friends in the Quencer family. Children:
• Emerald or Emerole Gordon Hartman, born 1904, died 30 Mar 1948 in Brooklyn, N.Y., using the name of Howard Gordon Reed.

On 27 Dec 1916, in the Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, Lawrence and Olive Maude Coats were married. Soon after he adopted Olive's daughter Edith May.

Lawrence and Olive Hartman lived in Watertown, N.Y., having a comfortable home at 129 Central St. He was employed by the School Department of Watertown, from 1923 until his death in 1944, as superintendent of construction and maintenance, having served three years previously as carpenter in the same department. Their children are listed below.
