Rachel was the first wife of Charles Willson Peale and the mother of 11 of his children, 5 of who died in infancy. The six children that lived to adulthood were: Raphaelle, Angelica Kauffman, Rembrandt, Titian Ramsey, Rubens and Sophonisba.

Concerning Rachel's burial, the following quote is taken from "Portrait Painter of the American Revolution" by Robert Morris, publishid in the TROWEL Magazine in the Fall issue, 2001:

"He was buried by the side of his first true love, Rachael, in St Peter's Churchyard in Philadelphia."
