Susan Mildred McCorkle was the daughter of Samuel White McCorkle and Lula Dunlap Strain. She married Samuel Madison Dunlap, the son of Milton Pollock Dunlap and Sarah Isabella Kerr Dunlap, on 2 Oct 1907 in Lexington, Virginia.

"Dunlap and Miss McCorkle Married Today. The marriage of Miss Susie Mildred McCorkle, daughter of and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel W. McCorkle of near Lexington, to Mr. Samuel Madison Dunlap of Lexington, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Dunlap of Kerr's Creek, Rockbridge county, which took place this afternoon at 4 o'clock, was one of the prettiest weddings ever celebrated in New Monmouth Presbyterian church. The sacred edifice was filled with a throng of friends and relatives of the young couple. Rev. D. A. Penick, D. D., venerable pastor of the church many years, was the officiating minister. Miss Addie Dunlap of Whistle Creek played the wedding marches. The church decorations yeliow and white. The bride looked lovely in empire princess white silk, with Irish lace trimmings. She rore pearls and carried bride's roses. She entered the church with her father, by whom she was given away. Mrs. G. M. Morrison of Minden, W. Va., sister of the bride, was dame of honor. She wore white mull, with girdle of golden rod yellow, and carried white dahlias. The bridesmaids Miss Mary E. Buchanan of Brownsburg, and Miss Nannie K. Dunlap of Kerr's Creek, both wearing white mull and carrying yellow dahlias. Mr. George T. Dunlap of Kerr's Creek, was best man, and the groomsmen were Messrs. Eldred S McCorkle of Minden, W. Va., W. S. Moore of Lexington. A reception was held at the home of the bride following the marriage, and many friends were it present to extend congratulations and good wishes. Mr. and Mrs. Dunlap left Lexington this evening and their wedding trip will include a visit to the Jamestown Exposition and other points of interest. The bride is one of the most attractive and popular young ladies of New Monmouth congregation. A marriage that interested a large circle of friends was solemnized in New Monmouth church at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon when Miss Susie McCorkle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel W. McCorkle, was married to Mr. Samuel Madison Dunlap of Lexington. The ceremony was performed by Rev. D. A. Penick, D. D., in a church tastefully dressed with golden rod and potted plants and filled with interested spectators. The bride was beautiful in a gown of white silk, trimmed with baby Irish lace. She wore pearls and carried a bouquet of bride roses. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. Thomas M. Morrison of Minden, W. Va., as matron of honor and Miss Nannie Kerr Dunlap of Kerr's Creek, and Miss Mary Edmiston Buchanan of Brownsburg, as bridesmaids. Mr. Geo. T. Dunlap of Kerr's Creek, was the groom's best man. The matron of honor was dressed in white mull with girdle of golden rod and carried a bunch of white dahlias; the maids of honor were dressed in white mull and carried bunches of yellow dahlias. The wedding marches were played by Miss Addie Dunlap. A reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. McCorkle followed the marriage, after which Mr. and Mrs. Dunlap drove to Lexington where they took an eastbound train on a bridal trip. On their return they will be at home in Lexington. Mr. Dunlap is one of the town's enterprising business men and his bride is an attractive young lady, who will be cordially welcomed to the community." On the 1920 Lexington, Virginia census, I found hardware merchant Samuel M Dunlap, 41; wife SUSAN M, 39; daughter/sons: Mildred McC, 11; Samuel M, Jr., 9 and James McK, 4 3/12, all Virginia born. They lived at 97 S. Main Street.

On the 1930 Lexington, Virginia census, I found hardware store salesman Samuel M Dunlap, 52; wife SUSAN M, 44; daughter/sons: Mildred M, 20; Samuel M, 18 and James Mc, 14, all Virginia born.

On the 1940 Lexington, Virginia census, I found hardware store part owner, Sam M Dunlap, 62 and wife Susin M, 58, both Virginia born.

Susan McCorkle Dunlap was born 13 Apr 1881 in Rockbridge Co., Virginia, to parents Samuel White Dunlap and Lula Strain McCorkle. She was the wife of Samuel M Dunlap. On 16 Feb 1947, she died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. VA Cert. of Death #4464.

"MRS. SAMUEL M. DUNLAP, SR. Mrs. Susan McCorkle Dunlap, wife of Samuel M. Dunlap, Sr., died Sunday morning in Jackson Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Samuel White McCorkle and Lula Strain McCorkle, both of Rockbridge county. She was an active member in the Lexington Presbyterian church and a member of the Lexington Woman's Club. Funeral services were conducted from the grave in the Lexington cemetery, by her pastor, Dr. J. J. Murray, at 4 o'clock, Monday. nMrs. Dunlap is survived by her husband, two sons and one daughter, S. M. Dunlap, Jr., James M. Dunlap and Mrs. Wilson P. Coe, all of Lexington. Five brothers and two sisters also survive: J. B. McCorkle, Hutchinson, W. Va.; E. S. McCorkle, Harrisonburg, Va.; S. W. McCorkle, Lewlsburg, W. Va.; Morton McCorkle, Lexington; T. A. McCorkle, Farmville, Va.; Mrs. Thomas Morrison, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Mrs. H. E. Moore, Lexington.
