Funeral Services to Be Held Here Monday Afternoon
---------------------
Glen Alexander, 26, a life-long resident of Grand Island and an employee of the Union Pacific railroad, died late yesterday morning in a local hospital. He had been seriously ill the last three months. The family home is at 1111 West Fifth.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon in the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home by the Rev. Alton O. Kaul, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Burial will be in Grand Island cemetery.
Glen David Alexander was born here on May 16, 1921, the son of David W. and Pearl Gillham Alexander. He attended the Grand Island public schools and was graduated from Senior High School.
In Nov. of 1942, he enlisted in the United States army. He went overseas in August of 1943 and served in the European theater of operations until January of 1946, when he returned to this country and was honorably discharged from the service.
Since his return he had been employed by the Union Pacific in the locomotive department at the local shops.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Grand Island, of Post 53 of the American Legion, Post 1347 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of Aerie 378 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He and the former Miss Doris Speck of Grand Island were married at Bucyrus, Ohio on May 22, 1943. Upon Mr. Alexander's return from the service, they established their home here.
He is survived by his wife; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Alexander, Grand Island and one sister, Mrs. Frank Biess, Chicago, Ill. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs Pearl Alexander.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock Sunday evening at the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home.
