** Date of newspaper is not always the date of the incident - this was a weekly, and stories were written, set, and the printing was done after the facts were typeset, often days later.

Chico Weekly Chronicle Record, Saturday Morning, March 29, 1896, pg 2 col 4: In Memoriam. Miss Emma E. Triplett was born in July 1872, and departed this life March 4, 1896. She was reared in Noble county, Ohio, coming to California less than one year ago.

She possessed a remarkably sweet spirit, and when quite young profession religion, and joined the Baptist Church in her native state.

Until within a year ago she possessed reasonably good health. When health seemed to decline, she came to California with Frank Triplett, with whom she made her home. The change did not result in any permanent benefit, and a few months ago she began to decline rapidly until death came and released her redeemed spirit from its tenement of clay.

She leaves a father, mother, four brothers and two sisters in Ohio, and one brother in Chico.

Thus, far away from home and scenes of her childhood, far from her family and her many friends, she passed away to join the loved ones who have gone before. But she was not without friends in Chico. Many came to pay the last tribute of respect. They sang the songs of Zion, and Rev. T.H. Stephens, pastor of the Chico Baptist Church, spoke words of comfort to all who were present.

Her remains were laid away in Chico cemetery, but she has gone to a land of joy and sunshine; there she waits her loved ones, and those who will make heaven their home.
