Grace Barbre Winter, 94, of Carmi, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 3:50 pm at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born March 12, 1916 in Burnt Prairie Township, IL the daughter of Frank and Oma (Winter) Barbre.
Grace married Carl Winter on December 24, 1947. When Carl left for the military, she was at the Carmi depot bidding him farewell. Almost four years later, she was at that same depot when he returned and began their married life. Grace continued to support her husband throughout their working years. She worked at Ainsbrook Garment Factory and was a homemaker. Grace was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi where she was a member of the quilting group.
Surviving are her husband Carl of Carmi, a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Kathy Winter of Carmi; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Gladys Winter, two brothers, Chester and Paul K "P.K." Barbre and a daughter-in-law, Connie Winter.
