He was the son of Jonas Rudisill and Marie Elizabeth Moul. In the past there was discussion that Philip's father may have been Philip Jakob Rudisill Sr. "The Genealogy of Pieter Heyl", DAR applications and "Our Kin" all indicated his father was Philip, but this is old research that has been corrected today with better sources. From the book, "The Rudisill Genealogy", comes the following statement: "The author of Our Kin, Miles Hoffman, relied primarily on oral history from family members during the early 1900's, and it is easy to be confused with the repetitive names and the blur of a century's memories. In this case, family researchers trying to verify Hoffman's work discovered some discontinuities in the data and a close study of land records has been done to verify that this Philip was the son of Jonas and Elizabeth Moul Rudisill of York County, Pennsylvania." For information, see "Carpenters A'Plenty", pages 195, 196 and 1044.

Philip married Elizabeth Lau about 1780 in York, Pennsylvania and they migrated to North Carolina. He fought during the Revolutionary War as a patriot from North Carolina. He was a blacksmith. He died at age 57 years.
