Vincie Picknally, 90, area drapery maker
Vincie (Nannini) Picknally, 90, of Melvin Avenue, a well-known drapery maker for more than 35 years, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.
She was a subcontractor for many area decorating houses and businesses, including Friendly Ice Cream Corp., Earle'e Wallpaper & Paint Co., Hanifin Designs, Roy's Home Decorating, Taylor Rental Corp., Westside Shade & Blind Co., and Botarro-Skolnick.
She had been a seamstress for the firms of Benjamin & Johns in Newark, N.J., Meyer Awning, Patricia Undergarment, and Whitley Tailors, all in Springfield.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she lived in New York City before moving to East Orange, N.J. She came to Springfield in 1943, and lived here for more than 40 years.
She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church.
She was the widow of William Frank Picknally.
She leaves two sons, retired Air Force Col. Robert J. Picknally and Carmen W. Picknally, retired vice president of Peter Pan Bus Lines; a daughter, Jean J. Montana, all of East Longmeadow; three sisters, Elsie Salerno of East Orange, Antoinette Galanti of Florham Park, N.J., and Katherine Melillo of Bricktown, N.J.; a stepbrother, Joseph Bonomo, and stepsister, Anna Agnetta, of Philadelphia, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday morning at Hafey East Longmeadow Chapels and the church, with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield.
Calling hours are set for Thursday afternoon and evening, and memorial contributions may be made to the Home-Health Care Division of the Easter Seal Society, 1111 Elm St., West Springfield, 01089.
