JOSEPH A. DOAK, 81, rejoined his beloved wife of 57 years on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 19, 1929. He attended Precious Blood Catholic School and Central Catholic High School. In 1950, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Marjorie A. Ubelhor. He was a devoted husband and father blessed with seven children. He pursued a heroic career as a Fort Wayne firefighter that spanned over 32 years. His hobby and passion was designing and building a beautiful home on Lake Gage which he proudly enjoyed with family and friends. During retirement, Joe and Marge enjoyed traveling out west. He compassionately cared for Marge as she battled MS, approaching life with enthusiasm, determination and humor. "He will be dearly missed by all." He is survived by his children, Joseph (Heather) Doak, Linda (Michael) Bird, Susan (Thomas) Wolfe, Patricia (Reginald) Barnwell, Thomas Doak, William Doak, and Jennifer (Bill) Leister; grandchildren, Brigid (Jason) Funk, Joseph Doak, Erin (Jan) Erkelens, Sean Doak, Bianca and Michael Bird, Meredith, Madeline and Blake Wolfe, Reggie and Preston Barnwell, Nicolaus and Corbin Leister; great-grandchildren, Michael and Jozlynn Bird, Ella Funk, and Georgia Allen; and brother, Richard (Carol) Doak. He will receive full firefighters honors and burial. Mass of Catholic Burial is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 2120 S. Harrison St., with calling 30 minutes prior. Fr. Tom Ascheman officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with rosary at 8:30 p.m. Entombment in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Parkview Hospice.
