Aunt Nell, as we Homan children called her, retired to West Palm Beach, Florida. She lived in a little bungalow style house on Georgia Ave, which has since been torn down to make way for modern development. We would visit with her during our winter break from school in New York and there was a tremendous red Poinsettia flowering in her back yard. Worth Avenue, Poinciana Plaza, The Breakers Hotel, The Henry Flagler Museum were among the many sites Auntie would guide us to, as well as many fine restaurants such as Kristine's. Needlepoint, knitting and crochet were among her hobbies and she won prizes for their beauty. Bridge, with a little gambling of nickel's and quarters, was her social outlet with the ladies.
In her later years, Aunt Nell had a boyfriend named Bill. They were a very complementary pair. I remember all of us in his old sedan, but Aunt Nell did not drive. Bill did. The funny part was that Bill was nearly blind and Auntie did not know how to drive, so she would verbally give him directions like stop! or turn right! Amazingly enough we got where we were going without incident.
