He married Betsey (Hancock) and to this union was born nine children, four of which still were alive in 1896: Sewell, Rebecca A., Ellen and Jabez.
Capt. Jabez was engaged in farming and was prosperous in the lumbering business giving employment to many men for many years. He was a Deacon in the Free Will Baptist Church, and for many years was an officer in the State of Maine Militia.
