Bernard was born May 27, 1925 in Valley Junction, West Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Earl B. and Fay (Angwin) Carder. Bernard served during WWII in the US Navy and in 1950, he was united in marriage to Gloria Knapp and they had two children, Tom and Kimberlee. Bernard had several jobs which included: bus driver, plumber, construction foreman and grocery store clerk. He attended First Federated Church and enjoyed vacation with his family each year; he also enjoyed working in his yard and flower garden.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria on March 23, 2007; one brother and one sister. He is survived by his son, Tom (Carol) Carder of Urbandale; daughter, Kimberlee (Tom) Griffiths of Clive; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Village at Legacy Pointe to be used for additional outdoor patio seating and perennial flowers.

Many childhood memories of him. I remember Uncle Bernard dancing with me when I was about 5. He let me stand on his shoes as we danced in the family room. He and Gloria were staying with us at the time while my parents were on vacation.
