Ernest T. Flebotte, 72, of 1145 East St., a retired sheep breeder, meat cutter, and the proprietor of the former Flebotte's Market in Indian Orchard, died Friday in Springfield's Baystate Medical Center. He was associated with the family market for 40 years, and retired in 1964. From 1965 to 1983, he was associated with Dave's Food Basket of East Longmeadow, and with the Bon Appetit Deli at Baystate West for the past seven years. Born in Indian Orchard, he lived in Ludlow for the past 37 years.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, and a member of its League of Sacred Heart Society. For the past 16 years, he was the superintendent of the Eastern States Exposition sheep barn and sheep show, and the market lamb contest there. For the past 18 years, he superintended the Westfield Fair sheep contest. He raised sheep for many years, and was a life member of the New England Sheep and Wool Growers Association. He leaves his wife, the former Phyllis M. Bissonnette; his mother, Alice (Lemieux) Flebotte of Palmer; two sons, Ernest P. of Descanso, Calif., and Thomas A. of Monson; two daughters, Margaret Bassette of Walpole, N.H., and Patricia Poitras of Brimfield; a sister, Doris Boulerice of Palmer, and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday morning at Ratell Funeral Home and St. Mary of the Assumption Church, with burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday afternoon and evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John the Baptist Church renovation fund at 181 Hubbard St., Ludlow, 01056.
