FORT LORAMIE - Thomas Schwartz, 78, of Elm St., died at 11:09 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, unexpectedly of natural causes at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 1, 1928 in Newport, the son of Omer and Emily (Monnier) Schwartz, who preceded him in death.

On April 19, 1952, he married Vera M. Seger at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Janis and Tony Winner of Fort Loramie, Joyce and Ed Roettgerman of Minster, and Jayne and the late Bill Yike of Kettering; a son and spouse, John and Janel Schwartz of New Bremen; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five siblings and spouses, Kenneth Schwartz of Russia, Joan and Norm Wright of Troy, Ruth and Carl Neargarder of Frenchtown, Mary Clark of Sidney, and Norma and John C. Jelly of North Carolina; and two sister-in-laws, Florence and Pat Schwartz.

Preceding him in death were a son-in-law, Bill Yike, two brothers, Robert and Herbert Schwartz, a brother-in-law, Jerry Herron; and a sister-in-law, Marie Schwartz.

He was a 1946 graduate of Russia High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea just prior to the Conflict start.

He retired in 1992 from Minster Machine Co. where he had been employed for more than 40 years. Tom worked in field service for numerous years and was chief inspector when he retired.

He was a member of St. Michael Church, Fort Loramie American Legion Post 355, Fort Loramie Kiwanis Club, Fort Loramie Racing Club, and Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 1391.

He enjoyed gardening and playing cards.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church with the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at Gehret Funeral Home, Elm Street, Fort Loramie.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad or the St. Michael Church Legacy Campaign.
