DEWITT, Iowa - Rose Burzlaff, 95, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday, December 29, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Rose Elizabeth Rathmann was born January 13, 1922, to Herman and Florence (Bunce) Rathmann near Grand Mound, Iowa. At the age of 2, she was taken in by an Uncle and Aunt, William and Nettie Paarmann Rathmann of Welton, to be raised as their own daughter. She graduated from High School in 1940. Rose married Walter H. Burzlaff on July 12, 1941, at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt. The couple resided and farmed in the Delmar area until relocating to Limon, Colorado, where they ran a KOA campground from 1970-76. They then retired to Colorado Springs, where Rose worked for Weight Watchers for 30 years. Walter preceded Rose in death in 2002, and she moved back to DeWitt that year.
Rose was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, where she was confirmed in 1936. After raising 5 boys, Rose enjoyed having time to crochet and sew.
She is survived by her sons, Bill of Davenport, Bob of Knoxville, Dick of Quartzsite, Arizona, and Mark (Elaine) of Mooresville, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Walter (Chris) Rathmann, and Beverly (Delbert) Wulf; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Walter, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy (Cindy); 8 brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter, Robyn.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
