Chico Enterprise Record, Chico, CA, Wednesday, August 31, 1949: "Albert W. Ballard Taken by Death. Albert Willard Ballard, well-known Stirling City resident, died at his home there early this morning. He had retired in April due to ill health, but his death was unexpected.

"Ballard was born September 12, 1881, in Winchendon, Mass., and it was there he received his education. At the age of 20, he came to California and in 1903 went to work for the Diamond Match Company. He remained with that company until his retirement this year.

"Mr. Ballard was a member of Table Mountain Lodge F&AM having been Master of the Lodge for two years. At the time of his death he was treasurer.

"Surviving are his wife, Martha Ramsey Ballard, formerly of Manchester, New Hampshire; brother, R.C. Ballard and a sister Miss Helen B. Ballard both of Winchendon, Mass., and a stepson, Wilfred D. Bagley of Paradise.

"Funeral services will be held at the Brusie Funeral Home Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Chico Masonic Cemetery."-all research by Carolyn Hackett Dowd.
