Ezekiel McCollum died at his residence, East Wheeling Avenue, Friday morning, September 20, 1901, aged 68 years.
He was born in this county near Antrim, February 1, 1833; his parents were Jasper and Sarah McCollum. He was one of a family of ten children; six sons, four daughters. The sons: J.M. of near Newcomerstown; Charles of Missouri; Richard of Bird's Run; Isaac of Missouri, deceased. The daughters: Hannah Furney, of Kansas; Jane Mardis, of Granville; Elizabeth Tedrick, of near Antrim, living and Sophia Osborn, of Iowa, deceased.
In April 1858 he was united in marriage with Sarah Hutchinson. There were born to them seven children: Those living are Mrs. Laura Reed, E.R., A.J., Charles and Miss Abbie, all of Cambridge; Dora and Lulu, died about sixteen years ago, in young womanhood.
Mr. McCollum has resided all his life in Guernsey Countyand for forty three years in Cambridge, thus entitling him to a membership in the veteran's society of the city. His occupation was that of a wagon maker and blacksmith and it is probable no man ever lived in the county who did more or better work then he. Of more than ordinary physical strength, untiring industry, robust health and a skillful mechanic, he was known and patronized by a great many citizens of Guernsey and adjoining counties.
When quite a young man he was converted and became a member of the Baptist church and has been a member ever since, for many years a past member of the church in Cambridge, in which he was very prominent especially in Sunday school work, has excellence as a leader in music, of which in his young manhood he was a teacher, was recognized and appreicated.
Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday at 2 o'clock p.m. conducted by his pastor, the Rev. F.G. Boughton. Interment in South Cemetery.
