Baby Ida lost her source of nourishment -- her mother's milk -- after her mother was physically and emotionally harassed by federal marshals who were hunting down Ida's father, James Yorgason. The marshals sought to arrest him for polygamy, and were throwing his young wives and newborn babies in jail as part of their search for him.

As a result of this cruel harassment, Christena's milk dried up, and baby Ida died. The family bitterly blamed the federal marshals for baby Ida's death.
