James Benjamin Smoak Jr. 89, of Indianapolis, died Sunday, March 25, 2007. He was born on Nov. 23, 1917, in Denmark, SC, s son of the late James and Corrie Smoak. He moved from Denmark to Fort Wayne in 1933. He was a manager of Cress' Market, the first supermarket in Fort Wayne; a salesman for National Biscuit Co.; supervisor with Maloley's supermarket chain; and salesman for Dilgard Foods from which he retired in 1984. He was a 1937 graduate of South Side High School, Fort Wayne and member of Grace St. John United Church of Christ, Fort Wayne. Surviving are his wife Elieen (Gemmer) Smoak; sons, Steve (Vickie) Smoak and James (June) Smoak; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
