Granville was a Great-grandson of Robert Thornton, the 1st white settler in 1773 of the land which became Parkersburg, WV. He was the 11th child of David and Sabitha Corbett Thornton. He married Luvernia Dulin on 23 May 1894 at Parkersburg.


A former railroad worker, and member of the Brotherhood of Trainmen, he retired after some years as an oil field worker. A resident of Barlow Twp., near Watertown, Ohio for more than 50 years, he was father of Lauretta, Lloyd N., Roy M., Helen Elizabeth, Grace Juanita, and Orin Dulin Thornton.


At the time of his death he was 95 years, 9 months, and 30 days of age, and had 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
