On Jan. 31, 1884 in Pecan Gap, Delta Co., TX, Willis married Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Bingham, b. Sept. 14, 1870 in Clarksville, TX; d. Aug. 17, 1901 in Old Bennington, OK, daughter of Elijah Bingham, b. Sept. 1834 in Walton Co., GA and Mary "Mollie" Elizabeth Smith b. in MS.
Willis, Mollie, and an infant daughter are all buried in Old Church Cemetery in Old Bennington, Bryan Co., OK. Mollie died in childbirth at age 31.
Willis was a champion fiddler and won many a fiddling contest in OK and TX. He was an active Mason in Bennington, OK. He attained the highest degree (33rd) within the Masonic Order and served five years as Treasurer of Bennington Lodge #19, and as head of the Lodge in 1902-03. Records show that Lodge 19 was "arrested" Jan. 9, 1944, which means it no longer exists. Records are now kept at the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma, 102 S. Broad St., Guthrie, OK 73044.
After the death of his first wife, Willis Saams Slaton remarried about a year later to an Indian woman, Janie Labor, daughter of Houston Labor, in Bennington, OK. He and Janie had no children together. When Willis died in 1909, his children scattered; the older ones left home, some went to live with relatives, and the youngest went to the Masonic Orphanage.
His children with Mollie were: Jesse Edmon "Edd" Slaton, Effie Jane Slaton Dorough, John Arnold Slaton, Willis Eagan Slaton d. age 4, Mary Druscilla "Mae" Slaton Savage, Ida Elizabeth "Dinks" Slaton Braddy Hancock, Ada Ernest Slaton d. age 9 mo., and infant twin girls died during birth.
