Caroline was born and raised on The Atkinson family farm in Buckingham Twp. She was the only daughter of Abraham and Johannah (Kepler) Atkinson who lived to adulthood. Her sister Mary Elizabeth Atkinson died in 1875 at age 17. On Christmas Day 1886 she married William B Clayton in Trenton, NJ. They had 4 sons. She and her husband lived in Bucks County for a time. After William's sudden death in 1906, she moved to Philadelphia, PA. She lost two sons, Edward and Harry in a boat accident in 1934. She later moved back to Bucks County, to be near her only surviving son, Frank. At the time of her death she was 101 years old. She was buried on her 102nd birthday.
