Richard Henry Segar, son of Benjamin and Edna Segar, was born on November 20, 1924 at Webster City, Iowa and was reared and educated in this community. He entered World War II March 4, 1943 and served over seas. Following his discharge, in 1945, he returned to the Webster City Community. He was united in marraige to Alice Carnell, and the couple had always resided in Webster City, IA. Mr. Segar was employed at the Franklin Mfg. Co. for 18 years.

Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. He tragically drowned in the currents of the Des Moines River while fishing with his sons. He is thought of by his family and friends as a hero and is loved and missed by all who knew him.
