Philip Edloe Bacon Jr., 88, of Huntsville died Nov. 10 at Crestwood Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Lexington, KY and raised in London, OH, Mr. Bacon graduated in dairy technology from Ohio State University in 1939. He came to Huntsville in 1979 with Meadow Gold Dairies as plant superintendent.

He received the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and American Defense Service Medal, among others. Gen. Charles De Gaulle personally presented him the Croix De Guerre.

After his retirement, he volunteered at the Crisis Center, tutored underprivileged children, worked with Habitat for Humanity and other community organizations. He was active in Trinity United Methodist Church.

His parents, Philip Edloe Bacon Sr. and Hazel Stack Bacon of London, OH; and brothers, Tom Bacon of London, Richard Bacon of CA, and John Bacon of Columbus, OH, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Martha "Betty" Bacon; daughters, Patricia and husband, Tom Lawrence, of Cookeville, TN, Mary Etta and husband, Jerry Palmer, of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Martha Brogan of Dublin, OH; sons, Philip E.
