Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 102nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "meritorious services". His younger brother was Brevet Brigadier General Josiah Given of the 74th Ohio Infantry.
